My mum constantly tells me to get at least nine hours of sleep but never does herself. She comes in, knocking over a few piles of books on the way, and I pretend to be asleep. She quickly grabs her coffee mug and creeps back out. I breathe a sigh of relief and keep reading. It is morning and I have lost my page. My book is lying on my stomach. After fixing my piles of books that mom knocked over last night, I have a shower. I have an organized system for all my books but no bookshelf to keep them on so they live on piles on the floor. As I glide through the library, moving around three people, I reach the fantasy section, my favorite. As I skim through the shelfs, I bump into something. There is someone looking straight at me. I gasp, and she smiles. I am so scared. I have never met anyone who can see me before. Instead of saying something polite like my mother would want me to do, I run out the library door, leaving it swinging behind me. As I run down the hall to nowhere in particular, I wonder if this so-called Bug knew I was a ghost or thought I was just a normal middle schooler, looking for a book in the library. Maybe I should have pretended to be a normal girl. Bug was the first person I met who could actually see me and I want to have someone my age I could tell all my secrets to, be friends with.
